Edit: as per Johnny Dramas comment below, if you want to be able to open files in a certain application, put -a followed by the applications name in quotes between open and the file. Direct, easy answer - add an alias to your /.bashprofile like: alias textedit'open -a TextEdit'. Simply download and extract it, move it to the desktop and then open it. To open any file from the command line with the default application, just type open followed by the filename/path. Keka needs a helper to set itself as the default application.
